It’s Friyay and today is day 5 and the final look at each of one of Sunningdale Mills’s products.
On our blog, we frequently cover the benefits of sprouting; today we share why choosing and eating organic food is good for all of us.
Eating organic food reduces our exposureto artificial ingredients and toxic, synthetic pesticides and prohibits GMOs. Canada’s Organic Standards place strict limits and prohibitions on:
The use of toxic, synthetic pesticides & synthetic fertilizers
The routine use of drugs, antibiotics or synthetic hormones or Animal cloning
Genetic engineering (GMOs), Sewage sludge (biosolids)
Irradiation
Artificial food colours, flavours, sweeteners, preservatives and many other processing aids
Check out the Organic Week Canada website for all details on why you should choose organic.
We looked at our Organic Sprouted Quinoa back in July…and nothing has changed! It is a great super whole grain, packed with nutrients and unlike other plant based foods, is considered a complete protein since it has all of the necessary amino acids found in a perfect protein, and this makes it a great choice for a healthy or plant based diet. Our sprouting process preserves all of the nutritious value of the organic quinoa and converts some of the starches to sugar improving the flavour profile of the seed and has these benefits:
lower in carbohydrates and higher in unsaturated fats
free of Sodium, rich in magnesium, phosphorus, iron
contains copper, fibre, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc and riboflavin, as well as other B vitamins: B6, niacin, and thiamine.
Our Organic Sprouted Quinoa cooks faster than rice and regular quinoa, has a light and delicate taste and has only one ingredient, Organic Sprouted Quinoa! It is free from any preservatives and the sprouting process extends its shelf life in our packaging.
Today’s recipe was inspired by this Quinoa with Zucchini and Onions recipe from Delicious Everyday, and as always all the ingredients at Remark Fresh Markets in London
Ingredients - serves 4
1 Zucchini, sliced for frying
1 tsp. Ground Thyme
1/2 large red onion, diced
1 tsp. minced garlic
2 Tbsp. Virgin Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions
Place olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat, and add onions, zucchini, thyme, salt and pepper. Cook for 20 – 25 minutes, stirring occasionally until the zucchini and onions are tender. Add the minced garlic and cook for a another 2 minutes.
While the zucchini and onions are cooking rinse and then cook the quinoa as per package instructions, with water. It will take about 15 minutes
Combine the quinoa and zucchini and onions and mix well. Add salt and pepper to taste, serve and enjoy!
